Ray

Ray is 84 years-old and has multiple health conditions, including COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) which affects his ability to do routine activities because of breathing problems caused by internal infections.

Ray receives a direct payment from social services which he uses to purchase care and support so that he can continue to live in his own home. Ideal for All provide Ray with a managed account on behalf of his local authority to employ Manjit as a Personal Assistant. We manage and administer the Direct Payment accounts for Ray which includes managing the receipt of the Ray’s assessed personal contribution charge into the account.

Manjit visits Ray four times per day, every day, to attend to his needs such as sorting out medication, preparing his meals, cleaning the house and doing the shopping. On most days, she’s the only person he will see.

“Manjit used to be a care assistant for my late wife who had Alzheimer’s and when my own health worsened, I started using a care agency who would send carers to my home to help me,” explained Ray, who also struggles to walk due to osteoarthritis and osteoporosis.

“Different carers were in and out and weren’t very reliable and sometimes I would wonder whether someone was going to show at all.

“When Social Services said I could employ Manjit directly as a Personal Assistant, I was delighted. It made life so much easier for me.”
