Nature of the job role:
The Employer is looking for a female Personal Assistant (PA) who is reliable, organised, flexible and able to multitask. The role involves providing a combination of personal, domestic, mobility, transport and social support.
The PA will work closely alongside the Employer and provide practical assistance with day-to-day activities both at home and in the community.
The role involves some physical duties and requires someone who is confident assisting a person with mobility difficulties and wheelchair use.
The successful PA should be caring, patient, responsible and able to adapt to the Employer’s changing needs.
Main Duties
Personal duties:
The PA will provide personal support, particularly in relation to the Employer’s safety when using the bathroom.
Duties include:
- Being present when the Employer uses the toilet to provide support and monitoring.
- Helping to prevent slips and falls.
- Providing physical support when the Employer is moving around the bathroom.
- Assisting the Employer as required while maintaining her dignity and privacy.
- Monitoring the Employer closely due to her risk of falling.
- Providing support with mobility and transfers where required.
Domestic Duties:
The PA will help maintain the home in a clean, tidy and organised condition.
Duties include:
- Making the bed.
- Tidying the living room and other areas.
- Organising household items.
- Washing and organising clothes.
- Managing regular laundry.
- Washing dishes and assisting with kitchen organisation.
- Carrying out light cleaning when required.
- Keeping the home generally tidy and organised.
Social and Community Duties:
The PA will support the Employer to become more active outside the home and attend activities and appointments.
This may include:
- Going out for coffee.
- Going to the pharmacy.
- Going shopping.
- Accompanying the Employer to appointments.
- Taking the Employer to physiotherapy.
- Supporting the Employer with errands.
- Helping the Employer get out of the house more regularly.
- Accompanying the Employer to other social or community activities as required.
Hours of work: 24.5 Split between 2 PA’s
The PA must be flexible regarding working hours and appointments.
- Appointment times may change at short notice.
- The Employer will provide advance notice of changes wherever possible.
- The PA must be willing to adjust their schedule when appointments or the Employer’s needs change.
Flexibility is particularly important following the Employer’s surgery, as her care and mobility requirements may change.
Qualifications:
- Full UK driving licence required.
- PA must be able to drive automatic vehicles only, including adapted/automatic steering where applicable.
- Must be confident driving and transporting a disabled person and assisting with a manual wheelchair.
- PA may use either the Employer’s vehicle or their own vehicle when agreed.
- The Employer will provide her Blue Badge. When using the car to transport the Employer, the PA must collect the Blue Badge from the Employer’s home and ensure it is in the vehicle as required.
Skills and Experience
The successful candidate should have:
- Experience as a PA, carer or in a similar support role.
- Able to work independently and follow a provided task list.
- Experience supporting mobility or wheelchair users is desirable.
- Confident with personal care and bathroom support.
- Good awareness of safety and falls prevention.
- Organised, reliable and able to multitask.
- Able to manage light domestic duties and regular laundry.
- Good communication skills and a caring, respectful approach.
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing needs.
- Confident driving and transporting a disabled person.
- Respectful of the Employer’s privacy, dignity and independence.
