Ideal for All is growing its employment support and related services. We have a new opportunity for a full time Lead Specialist Employment Support Officer to support disabled and disadvantaged people to change their lives through finding work.

We are looking for a full time enthusiastic hard working and highly motivated Lead Specialist Employment Support Officer to join our team. The individual must have lived experience or expert knowledge of disability and a real insight into the issues disabled people face in finding and securing employment.

The successful applicant will have a proven experience and track record in the employment recruitment or training field. You will have excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills and the ability to build relationships and help others fulfil their potential.

You will have some management forward/supervisory experience and be confident passionate about developing your team in a fast-paced and target driven environment. You will be able to manage a range of tasks in outreach locations predominantly in Solihull and in the local community.

This role provides an opportunity to actively influence and support employers in the local community to change their attitudes towards employing disabled people or those with a health condition, and work with them to build a better understanding of disability and being Disability Confident.

Lead Specialist Support Officer will lead advisers and support them to ensure team targets are met across all allocated programmes/projects.

Within the framework of Ideal for All’s user-led management model, the Lead Officer will provide a personalised support service which provides disabled and disadvantaged clients with the skills, development, motivation and confidence to enable them to move into suitable sustainable employment and volunteering opportunities.

The successful candidate will arrange meetings with partner agencies (voluntary and statutory sectors) and/or employers concerning the individual’s needs, including partner organisations that work with diverse groups to develop joint working that will enhance service delivery and increase opportunities for individuals.

The Officer will lead on employer engagement activities to support the placement of individuals into sustainable employment and or volunteering in line with targets and key performance indicators. To assist the Contract & Development Manager in the day to day management and support of the team and volunteers including conducting regular one to one staff supervision, reviews, measuring KPI’s, motivating, driving performance, addressing any under-performance and supporting where required.

To lead on the management/distribution of caseloads across the team (including your own); completing caseload review sessions with team members to ensure participant progression.

To undertake initial assessments with participants of their pre-employment support needs and formulate development action plans which will enable clients to achieve goals.

To manage, develop and support a caseload of clients, providing encouragement and co-ordination of activities including mentoring, development planning, effective monitoring and guidance and any employment related training that will ensure progression to employment, with an emphasis on movement toward sustained unsupported employment where appropriate.

To assist individuals in their search for work and actively seek out and secure suitable employment which match client’s skills, experience and aspirations wherever possible.

To lead on the engagement of employers, developing a range of practical solutions to meet both employers and individual’s needs.

To ensure clients receive appropriate skills training by identifying the most appropriate training provider be it internal or external and carrying out regular reviews.

To pro-actively promote the service and seek potential beneficiaries by providing appropriate advice, guidance and information to enable effective access.

To participate in case conferences when appropriate including after clients are offered a position in order to ensure the client receives a smooth transition in to employment.

To establish, develop and maintain effective working relationships with local employer’s groups, statutory, voluntary and private organisations to support both client referral, training and individual client support.

To promote and facilitate the concepts of independent living, empowerment and self-determination for disabled and disadvantaged participants; enabling them to have greater control and choice

Evidence of training or qualifications in Information, advice or guidance, employment related services or mentoring/coaching field to at least level 3.

Management Qualification

Other relevant IAG, Adult Learning or Mentoring Qualifications.

Of managing or supervising a team in a challenging target driven environment. Of effective performance management.

Of working in the employment, recruitment or vocational training sector.

Of working with young people and adults who are disabled, have health conditions or who face disadvantages in relation to employment, inclusion and independence.

Of undertaking assessments, training needs analysis and developing personal development and progression plans.

Of delivering information, advice and guidance; one to one or group training, development sessions and coaching/mentoring.

Of engaging with employers to develop solutions which meet participants and employer’s needs.

Special Skills/Knowledge

Understanding of the social model of disability and person centred approaches.

Understanding of the local and national labour market and employment issues.

Current knowledge of local strategic training and employment developments

Current knowledge of welfare benefits and issues

Knowledge of the local demographics and make up of Solihull in relation to employment and skills

Empathy and belief in the potential of disadvantaged and disabled people

Flexibility to cope with the varying demands of the role and achieve the desired results

Ability to problem solve and respond appropriately to a variety of situations

Ability to manage and support a caseload and achieve targets for progression

Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team

Able to develop and maintain excellent business links

Good administrative and organisational skills.

Good communication and presentation skills.

Full UK Driving Licence and access to own fully insured vehicle for business use

Interests and Motivation relevant to the job

Willingness and ability to work and travel inside the borough of Sandwell and, occasionally, outside for meetings, training with possible evening & weekend working

Positive attitude to disability, health problems and employment.
