Thale

Thale has struggled throughout his life with finding regular work and a place to call home. Self-taught in English and a talented cook, he has moved all over England trying to find a ‘steady’ job and place to live.

Thale first met staff during outreach sessions where he took part in ‘spring clean’ activities. Since then he has taken part in a range of activities at the Burberry Court and in the community, including hands on gardening, cooking and healthy eating workshops, employment support workshops and social events.

Since accessing our Healthy Lifestyles and Wellbeing services, Thale feels inspired to pursue his dream of cooking and working in a kitchen, progressing as his confidence grows, to be supported with job searching and regaining his focus.

“The staff have been so kind to me, now I am back on my feet and not living an unhealthy life. It’s no good for your mental health, and I don’t want to go back.

“Working on the garden patch I have met new friends. Before this I had never spoken with my neighbours even though I lived here for five years! Now we chat, share food and grow plants together. Thank you.”
